never mind. i used this command (found in the archive) to solve my problem.
ADD FILES
/FILE="/home/dr/Documents/thesis/thesis data 24th.sav"
/FILE="/home/dr/Documents/thesis/thesis data 2.sav"
.
EXECUTE.

i have a question. i have two different sav files with the same variables but
different individuals. say,the first file contains data for the first 100
individuals and the second one contains data for the next 100 individuals.how
could i merge these two datasets so that one file contain all the 200
entries.the variables in both the dataset are same.
