Having worked at a particular large retailer and having purchased for them they get there software from distributors such as Ingram and TechData. The story from the CompUsa employee saying they will not have them on the shelf is likely bull. The store want products on the shelf that turns and old versions of software do not produce "turn". I will bet it is on the shelf in the earlier mentioned store at the same time as other stores in the area.

Try CompUSA.

You're joking... Right?
If you are referring to the statement from Office Depot that they sell
windoze only, I am not joking. That is what I was told. I should check
with another store. Maybe he just didn't know what he was doing.

While I doubt if every else's experience with CompUSA will be the same
(and in their defense, I bought 7.3 there the day after it was initially released...), I found this a little bit humorous...

The local CompUSA is saying they will have boxed sets of 8.0 in some
time this week.
