He probably meant to say that because 8.0 uses a different compiler than
7.3, the binary format of an object file could be different and it does
matter when you're talking about the kernel (ie modules should be compiled
with the same compiler used for the kernel).
That's probably why it could be a good reason for nvidia to release a
source (well semi-binary) and a binary driver for 8.0.
