ssh works fine and I use it all the time. Just be sure you have adequate bandwidth on both ends. We're a T1 at work and home is cable modem. Exporting X sessions to either machine as the remote is excruciatingly slow. Consequently, I use console apps exclusively, via ssh....which is fabulous, in my experience.
