Hi Herman,
If your PT rig has "VCA" tracks available you should check them out!
All you half to do is make a group say "8 drums group" then make a VCA track 
and assign the "8 drum group" to that vca and Everything is just "BOB":)!
BTW VCA tracks were introduced in to PT with version 7.2.
They make all the tasks your trying to do a breeze!.
