Don't forget that if you are associated with an educational instatution PT
10 is about $299. Sometimes they will even count a church organisation to
qualify for the discount. I am possibly going to see if my local Boys club
qualifies because they have a small recording studio for the children, but
do not have PT and I am trying to be able to help out with their projects. .

Remember there is also Pro Tools M Powered. It requires an M audio interface
and only works with mAudio interfaces but is otherwise the same program and
can be had for as little as $299 standalone and start at $329 bundled with
m-audio interface. Also same with Regular Pro Tools it's $699 but bundled
with an avid interface it becomes a better deal, but only if you are in
the market for a high quality interface as well.
Garage band is great for a free programs and a bit more usable than
audacity when it comes to certain things.Learn its *unusual* way of working
with it with voice over and you are set. www.appletothecore.info has some
garage band podcast, and www.icanworkthisthing.com has a nice text summary
of what's covered in the podcast.

Okay thanks for getting back to us on this thread. I have bought logic
found everything you said to be true. Now I'm still thinking about getting
ProTools but 699 is the best price I've found alright. I am not ready to
sink that much more into this I can Boot Camp the MacBook and run sonar 8.
I will check out MainStage. I already have GarageBand as well I think I
will have enough to get my things done one day maybe even soon I will of
course get ProTools because I buy too much here that I can never use but
I'm happy with the Mac platform

I'll try to hit all the questions asked in this thread thus far. Pro
Tools 9 and 10 are equally accessible so long as you are using snow
leopard or lion. Personally i prefer lion as its much improved voice over
wise over SL in my opinion. Everything works in ML except edit fields
and the counter/clock fields won't read at all in ML. THis is a bug apple
has been made aware of and is working on as far as we know. So for now
its not advisable to use ML with protools. To the person consider
switching from Reaper. I must say reaper is a fine daw in it own right
and many a pro tools faithful has jump ship to reaper has it has many
advantages over pro tools for a hell of lot less money. So if you are
already comfortable with reaper, there is no shame in sticking with it.
Al the features you mentioned are available in both Pro Tools and
reaper and usable with screen readers. As an audio only person myself i
haven't found any limitations with Pro Tools, Midi is where the
limitations are at the moment accessibility wise but most of the midi
guys on here seem to make it work for them. I have no issues with focus
rite stuff personality has i have owned one of the original saffire 26/26
IO. From what i heard through this list and from my own experiences
trying to use it in apple stores a few times, logic isn't all that
accessible, there are way s to use it for its midi instruments that
partly relies on remembering the right series of keystrokes and doing
things without audible feedback from voice over, but recording audio and
or editing anything really isn't that doable with voice over yet. On the
other hand, Garage band is plenty usable with voiceover and with the main
stage instrument pack available in the app store for $30 you can pretty
much add most if not all the logic sounds to garage band.
Hope i caught al the questions in there.

Hi, Ricky. I'm currently learning to use Garage Band now with Voiceover.
I was wondering if Logic is accessible though. I learned a little bit of
how to use Logic Audio a long time ago back in 2000 or 2001 when EMagic
owned the company. Is ProTools 10 accessible with Mountain Lion and
Voiceover or is using Lion much easier with this version? Should I use
ProTools 9 instead of version 10?
Sorry for all the newby questions. I'm just getting back into learning
ProTools again.

Yes I bought a MacBook Pro and they even had snow leopard on it at the
Apple store. My computer is a year-old and Snow Leopard was put on it
just the other day. So I know you could possibly downgrade to Lion. I
may have to do that because I'm thinking of doing ProTools and not been
camping my MacBook. I am going to try to use logic for a little bit of
midi. Then just stick to ProTools

Hi all,
For the past year, I've recorded in Reaper, and audacity ETC, and now,
I'm contemplating, making the jump to Pro tools.
Unfortunately, the MacBook that I bought in September came with
mountain lion, and I don't know if it's possible to down grade to
lion, as it's no longer available via the app store.
Last week, I had an opportunity to spend three days tracking with a
great friend of mine who just finished spending 3 years at house of
blues in Nashville. I was amazed at what he was able to accomplish in
pro tools. He is sighted but was willing to give me a quick test drive
with voice over on his mac. Sorry for all the back story. Here are my
questions. I do nothing with Midi what soever, so with this in mind,
could I get enough use out of the features available to Voice over in
pro tools 10? Also, I'm considering purchasing one of the focusrite
Liquid 40 Pro or saffire 56. I'd also like to purchase a control
surface to do at least the transport controls as often I'm recording
alone. What is a reasonably priced control surface that folks are
using. Is there something better than the focusrite products for
input. I really would like to be able to track 4 to 6 things at a time
as some times I do have my friends play with me and it would save
time!
The features he showed me last week which I was most impressed with
are punch, and loop record. Are these features accessible using voice
over?
I apologize for all the questions which I'm certain have been asked
over and over, but I spent 8 hours today reading the archives of this
groups and at this point, I'm overwhelmed!
Thanks again guys!
