the process is called ducting and someone more experienced with side chaining
compressors may be able to explain better how its done. I know of no easy way
to do this in Pro TOools off hand. However garage band makes it relatively
easy. Import your two tracks in grage band, make one the ducting leader, (the
voice) and one the ducting follower, (the music) If you need more fine tune
control than what garage band gives you over it, then you will have to use the
manual method with a compressor in pro tools. There is plenty of articles on
side chaining compressors out there online if you don't mind googling around,
checking out podcast like home recording show, or blogs like home studio
corner, or recording revolution. None of these are blind specific but one you
understand what needs to be done its just a matter of executing with voice
over and keyboard instead of clicking with a mouse.
