For all that might have followed this topic, Herman and I spoke off list and 
the issue was the mouse pointer following the VoiceOver cursor. I'd recommend 
keeping the option set to have the mouse pointer ignore the VoiceOver cursor. 
It's not worth the potential issues it can create. It's easy enough to use 
Control-Option-Command-f5 whenever the need arises to route the mouse pointer.
