OK, like Matt pointed out in his reply, let's say you had a few tracks and they
were all selected, well, pressing either Control-Option-semicolon or
Control-Option-p would have no effect because all the tracks are selected and
the insertion point has nowhere to go. You need to retract the insertion cursor
at least once which will retract it from the bottom-most track. One can
actually retract it several times but, for VoiceOver users,, it's kind of a
nuisance to keep passing through the keystrokes. Of course, one can always
simply turn off VoiceOver, perform the shortcut several times and turn
VoiceOver back on. The other thing is (and I think this might still apply
because it used to in the early versions of Pro tools), if you have several
tracks selected and have an insertion cursor running through all of them, if
you retract from the bottom track and then just use Control-Option-semicolon,
the insertion cursor will move down to the bottom track and only be located in
the bottom track. It's sort of a shortcut to just move the insertion point to
one track. Then, you can use the Control-Option-p shortcut to move back up the
list to the desired track.
