I just gave all that a try and still no luck. It almost seems to me
that the meter is reading to hot for some reason.

Hi,
If you have problems with the signal meter inside each track, it might help to
select only this track in the track list and hide all other tracks. You should
also check the peak setting in your preferences, it can be set to update never,
each 3rd sec or always.
Best,
John André

Hello all my name is chad Morrison. I am new the list and only 3 months in to
using pro tools.
Anyway, I am having a problem with setting my in put levels. When I hook up my
mic and talk/sing I can not get my meter to read anything below -9 DB. This is
even with the pad on my interface turned on and with the gain nob turned all
the way to the left. I have prefader metering turned on, I have set all the
meters to classic view, I have tried clearing clips just to see if that would
change anything with no go. Any Ideas? I am using the latest OS with pt 11
and a scarlett 18i20.
thank you in advance,
Chad
