Great questions and post! Personally, I think you are right on when 
you say you want to take control of the conversation when possible. 
:) Also, for better or worse, extremely gifted blind musician is a 
stereotype in our culture.  Does it focus too much on our blindness 
or somehow feed the idea that we have mystical powers, yes. But, it 
also might get bums in seats at shows or sell a few more CD's.  I see 
it as a positive selling point.
