I have a MOTU 24IO interface that uses the old style PCI slot to connect to the computer and a couple of Grace Design 101 preamps.
Is there any way to use this interface with Protools 11 on a Macbook Pro? If it is not feasible, what other audio interface options should I be considering? I want to get started in Protools (coming from Sonar), but am still a bit cloudy on what works with what, and all of the connectivity options, etc. I do a lot of sequencing, so I need a machine/setup that will handle several virtual instruments at once. I also need to be able to track 5-10 vocal tracks per project, as well as 4-6 live instruments such as guitar, harmonica, etc. Note: I generally do not need to track more that 2 or 3 vocals at one time, so the 24IO is major overkill for most cases. It's just what I already have on-hand. Would a laptop with a quad-core I7 and 16 GB of RAM be enough, or would I have to go to a Mac Pro with more cores and RAM? Also, I'm assuming I can do this with a non-HD version of PT11, but want to make sure. Thanks for any clarification you can provide. I've asked this question in other forms before on this list, but still need a bit more feedback to make sure I'm headed the right direction. Thanks.
