I've been using Pro Tools for many years and have thus encountered all kinds of
operating system tweaks dating back to OS 8.5. In recent years, I've lost track
of how many optimizations there are. I've usually just made a few changes and,
whenever something conflicted, I'd search around and figure out what the
problem was and moved on. For the first time in a very long time, I'm
configuring a new Mac Mini exclusively for Pro tools. I must say, I'm surprised
at the sheer number of optimizations that are either required or strongly
recommended. Also, some of the rules have changed so what was once a no-no is
now a yes-yes. At any rate, I encourage anyone who hasn't really done so to
visit
http://www.avid.com/optimize
and read through and follow instructions for system optimization. If you follow
the first link regarding System Preferences, you'll be taken further down the
page and continue reading from there and each subject will be covered.
