I haven't used those plug-ins so I can't speak of their accessibility. I'm not 
sure exactly what you're trying to do but, for what it's worth, you can simply 
take a 5.1 mix and change the routing to either LCR, LCRS,, stereo or whatever 
you wish and make adjustments to the original 5.1 mix. What the plug-ins will 
do is give you a sense of what the downmix will sound like or do the actual 
encoding for you. Ultimately, however, the downmixer will do that work for you. 
If you're working on a high-level project and you specifically want to render 
the encoded files, well, that would certainly call for the plug-ins but then 
you'd need to make sure you're doing the right kind of down mixing for the 
release format. You'd have to coordinate that with the authoring house of the 
DVD or download provider. Frankly, most people usually trust Dolby or DTS to 
handle that end, again, unless it's truly a serious audio release.
