Heard a demo on it on Steve's site.  Someone was using it with Superior
Drummer 2.  Sounded accessible to me.

For all I know, Samplitude has a way to detect drum hits already, I 
just haven't come across it yet.

It was doable in Sonar using AudioSnap.
