Selecting unused clips means that the clips that will be selected are not used
in any tracks whatsoever. If, for example, a clip appears in an underlying
playlist, then it is technically being used because it's associated with a
track because it appears either within the main playlist or in an alternate
playlist.

If two tracks contain the same clip, the clip is not specifically associated
with either track, per se. Clips are independent of tracks themselves. So, if
you delete a track with clip x and clip x also appears on another track,
deleting the first track doesn't affect the status of clip x.

You can think of the commands in the Clips List as being sort of global. when
you choose to select unused clips, Pro Tools will select clips that do not
appear in any playlists of any track in the session.
