Just so everybody can appreciate how incredibly clever I am, the subject line includes the word "consideration" spelled with a "k" in keeping with Native Instruments' tradition. Hardy har-har.
Anyway, I thought I'd share some information that cost both me and Sweetwater tech support a few hours as well as a complete manual uninstall and reinstall of the Komplete Ultimate software. This may or may not affect some people depending upon which operating system they're on and whether they've installed various versions of Pro Tools with legacy drivers and files, etc. The symptoms that I experienced were that the Komplete Kontrol software did not recognize my Komplete Kontrol S61 controller. The controller menu was greyed out and no controllers were detected. Meanwhile, the OS clearly saw the keyboard correctly identified by the vendor ID. Also, the keyboard worked as one would expect in Pro Tools. But, because the Komplete Kontrol software didn't really see the keyboard fully, I couldn't launch the accessibility feature. Again, I spent loads of time on Team Viewer sessions with sweetwater tech support and had sighted assistance to go through the update process fully twice and it still didn't work. Well, in an unrelated email exchange with somebody from the Native Instruments beta team, I was given a link to a support article about NI hardware not being recognized by Komplete Kontrol. It appears to affect OS X 10.10.5 Yosemite and 10.11 El Capitan. Apparently the Avid Core Audio driver can cause problems with Native Instruments hardware being recognized properly. The Avid Core Audio driver is not necessary for using Pro Tools. It's for using Avid hardware with third party software. Anyway, removing it solved the problem. I wish I had known about that before having gone through the reinstall… Anyway, for what it's worth, here's that article for anybody who needs it.
