Hi Ramy,
For certain commands, it's necessary to have the Edit window open. It doesn't 
necessarily have to be the frontmost window but it sometimes needs to be 
present, at least in the background. Most of the time, one can keep the Mix 
window in front just keep in mind that you'll occasionally encounter instances 
where the edit window must be in front for certain tasks. For example, to 
rename a clip with Command+Shift+r, the Edit window needs to be in front, 
otherwise the command will not work. Anyway, keep that in mind and you'll know 
what to try when an edit-related shortcut seems to not work as expected.
By the way, the Command+Shift+1 shortcut is one of several found in the Clips 
List pop-up menu. Look through the list and you'll find some other shortcuts 
that might be of interest.
