Cool, thanks for the clarity.

Just to be clear, Komplete Kontrol is a plug-in that has a dedicated series of
MIDI controller keyboards that interface with the plug-in but the plug-in
itself has no libraries. The Komplete Kontrol plug-in can load Native
instruments products like Komplete and Komplete Ultimate or individual plug-ins
like Kontakt or third party VST plug-ins. The only thing resembling a library
that comes with the Komplete Kontrol series controllers is something called
"Komplete Select" which is a very simple library consisting largely of Kontakt
instruments and some synths. While the KK S series controllers come with this
basic library as a download, the more comprehensive Komplete 11 or Komplete 11
Ultimate is a much more diverse and comprehensive package of, not only
instruments but also some processing and effects plug-ins.

Good article. Plan to use a surface controller for track control EQ etc. An
article read weeks ago referred to the NI Komplete Kontrol as a midi
controller but said nothing about mixing tracks. I think it’s a very good
keyboard with a high quality library. I’m thinking other midi instruments can
also use the NIKK library as well. Not fully sure on that though.

Thanks for the article.

Andre.

The Komplete Kontrol S series keyboard is a MIDI keyboard and not a control
surface. While it does have encoder knobs, it's not the type of controller that
controls track volume, mute, pan, etc. Here's an article that lists compatible
devices:

<http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/compatibility/Pro-Tools-12-Approved-Audio-Interfaces-and-Peripherals>

http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/compatibility/Pro-Tools-12-Approved-Audio-Interfaces-and-Peripherals

and it should be noted that a control surface like the Mackie Universal,
Presonus FaderPort 8 and some other third party manufacturers make surfaces
that have HUI implementation which Pro Tools supports. Not all HUI emulations
are alike, however, so it's good to do your research before taking a plunge.

I’m considering the Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol keyboard. Where do you

The best type of controller to use with Pro Tools is one that is supported.
However, if you're trying to use a generic MIDI controller, it's best to read
the control surfaces guide pdf and follow instructions there. It'll definitely
take some sighted assistance. Again, a supported surface is a far better way to
go if at all possible and I realize that sometimes it's just not feasible.

hi friends

what’s the most convenient way of assigning a plug-in or track parameter to a
physical controller on a midi control surface in ProTools 12.8.2? (am using
controllers by Novation and the uc-33E).

huge thanks for any input

Roy.
