Glad you're enjoying it so far. As Steve said, double-tapping is sometimes employed where one wants to check the status of a mode rather than changing it. Further, VoiceOver often reports the checked or unchecked status in a sort of backwards way where it reports what the status was before you issued the command rather than what it is after you've issued the command.
