Hi Katie, Not much has changed on the control surface front, although since last time, the C24 has certainly entered end of life cycle, meaning that it will no longer be sold. Historically,, end-of-life products tend to officially be supported for for 5 years after the end of life but we've seen products still work with the latest version of Pro Tools beyond that 5 year point. That said, I wouldn't necessarily recommend the C24 at this point unless you can get it at a really low price and, by that, I mean less than the S3. I have not personally used the Dock but will make it a point to test it. To me, the S3 is the most promising surface in conjunction with the dock for transport and scrub control. What remains to be seen is whether the Dock will work without an iPad but in conjunction with the S3. There's some doubt about that so I'll have to inquire.
On the interface front, I can't comment on the Focusrite accessibility as there have been mixed reports about that as well. If you're using HD hardware, it's not a problem at all because Pro Tools sees the Red as an Avid interface. It's when you use it outside of HDX hardware that it's uncertain. There's no doubt that you'll be able to use the interface for straight-forward basic applications but, beyond Pro Tools, you might not have access to stand-alone settings like sample conversion, soft limiting, buffer sizes, etc. outside of the Pro Tools environment. Unless you're using other software, it probably won't be an issue at all. Hope that helps for now.
