Hey Slau. Good point on plug-ins. Should have mentioned that although I
think in Karin's case she was interested in loading up data created in Pro
Tools and getting the data out :-)

The sessions themselves will open but it's likely that all of the plug-ins
(or most) will be outdated and there's no way to substitute one for
another. For example, eQ II hasn't been around since Pro Tools version 7.
If you open a session with the old EQ II instantiated on a track, you'll be
alerted that those plug-ins are not available and you'll have to manually
change those plug-ins for the eQ III plug-in. Same goes for the old
Compressor plug-in that was replaced by the Dyn III compressor, etc. So,
while it's certainly possible to open old sessions, unless they were
properly archived, the content will not necessarily sound the same. Without
an archived session, one would have various degrees of success resurrecting
old session files. Just something to keep in mind.

Thank you, that is terrific to know.
I have several hours of radio work all produced in pro tools saved on an
external hard drive. I have been concerned that we might lose those
sessions if we upgrade.
Thanks,

Hi All,
I would hope the answer would be yes given how many years people have been
using Pro Tools in the media industry. still, can any pro tools session
be opened in the program even if a different version from that in which
the session was created?
By which I mean, if the session was produced in a prior version, can it
be opened and manipulated in later ones?
Thanks,
Karen
