I have a thunderbolt hub Thats a few years old that I connect to my 2017 MBP
with the apple thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter. (Thunderbolt 1 and 2 are
backwards compatible) If its just for Ephernet, keyboards, iLok and etc, You
can find a USB-C dock with 100 watt pass through for power so you can power
your laptop and have all those things plugged in for not much money. Soundcards
I would connect directly with aUSB-c to USB adapter or thunderbolt 2 to
thunderbolt 3 adapter depending on what interface you have. Drives I would
connect directly as well or put them on their own hub. If they are USB3
external drives a USB-C hub should be sufficient, just get one of the ones with
the 10GB maximum throughput.
