You might not have had the track view set to Notes rather than Clips. Actually, unless you're editing controller data or other non-MIDI note events, you don't have to open the MIDI Event List. You can just arrow to the notes and edit them. Some of that is just baked into Pro Tools itself. Of course, Flo Tools turbo charges it but everything does work in 2019.10.
