Sorry, I guess the docs are wrong!
I'll update the docs when I return from vacation.

You could try going with an earlier version of Ptplot, perhaps Ptplot 5.2,
or you could comment out the offending code.

BTW - I looks like there are problems with Ptplot applets when
running Java 1.4.2. I was not able to narrow down the problem, but
what happens is that when I jump from applet to applet with Java 1.4.2
in IE or Mozilla, then the eventually the browser hangs!

Professor Lee suggested that the problem might be that we are calling
methods outside of the event thread, but I have not looked further
in to this.

The ptplot 5.3 web site says you only need Java 1.2 or higher but I think
you need at least 1.4.

The PlotFrame class uses

import javax.print.attribute.PrintRequestAttributeSet;
import javax.print.attribute.HashPrintRequestAttributeSet;

These are part of the java.print package which does not exist in Java 1.3.1
or 1.3.2.

We have Java 1.3 on our system. Will I have to upgrade to 1.4 or is there
a workaround?

Thanks,
