I was invited to be on a steering committee for the local celebration of OneWebDay (http://www.onewebday.org/):
OneWebDay is an Earth Day for the internet. The idea behind OneWebDay is to focus attention on a key internet value (this year, online participation in democracy), focus attention on local internet concerns (connectivity, censorship, individual skills), and create a global constituency that cares about protecting and defending the internet. So, think of OneWebDay as an environmental movement for the Internet ecosystem. It's a platform for people to educate and activate others about issues that are important for the Internet's future. The local event in Portland is organized as a teach-in at Pioneer Court House Square. We've rented the whole Square for the day. There is a booth for "how to share your internet connection with wifi", which PTP is organizing. I need folks to help man that booth, to talk to people and to demo stuff. I'll be there too, but I have also volunteered to setup the network and might be busy with that, depending on how things go with connectivity. So, this is a call for volunteers to help out.
