Russell,

I also care and agree with Sam in wishing it were different. PTP has
provided leadership over the years on a number of issues and I still feel
there is much more to be done. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if the current
focus of the organization is completely clear to everyone. Maybe during our
voting period this year we could have an open discussion between candidates
and members on where they see PTP heading. We have done this in the past but
it feels like this might be valuable again.

It kind of feels like we need a unifying goal & direction in order to
mobilize volunteers. Kind of like Kennedy's famous speech and the space
program in the 60's. The US accomplished a quantum leap in a short period of
time to get to the moon but then lost direction once we reached it. Perhaps
we need a new challenge/goal?

I also think the Mississippi project was a great idea and would like to see
that duplicated in many other areas such as New Columbia. There are
obviously some big challenges in doing this, not the least of which is
overcoming apathy in the community. But if it were a small challenge, no one
would take it seriously.

 My $.02 worth

I care. So does every Smartphone user. So do other nonprofits or
organizations who want to send a positive message about community.
Connecting. Uniting. Sharing. That's why non-profit organizations
exist -- to have fun while providing a community service. PTP meetings
are always fun. There's always something to talk about and interesting
projects to do. Scaling up the IT expertise is the tricky bit. PTP is
you, Russell, and 2-3 others who do most of the work.

It's the nature of community organizations. I wish it were otherwise.
