One of my big concerns about the Skypilot was the terrible failure rate
of the units. I have heard from multiple sources that 42-55% of the
units failed.

I think most of the failure we due to the high electrical transients
caused by the start up of the mercury vapor or sodium lamps they were
attached to.

These types of failures are not quite as obvious as all out failure. The
types of transients that ripple through the system also can cause the
output stages of these radios and the diversity switch in particular to
fail resulting in low power on the output. The backhaul on these units
seemed to be one of the main problems

After ditching the antenna array, the 5 lb. aluminum base, and a bunch
of other extra cruft... maybe. Peplink makes one of the boards but it's
no longer supported by them as they've moved on to making a niche class
of load balancer products. I still don't understand why they didn't use
a dual radio board design as dual mini-PCI boards have been available
for some time. That antenna array still has me boggled, too. For fun, I
took note of the FCC ID (RV7-DBE1010) and looked up the test reports
here: http://www.fcc.gov/oet/ea/fccid. I had to enter RV7 only then look
for DBE1010 in the resulting list.
