I misread the "Hack the Badge" blog post, which is really about
stocking their vending machine with wearable computer PC boards, as
indicating that they had a special vending machine which accepted
appropriately programmed wearable  computers as payment.

A friend of mine once wrote a story in which there was a vending
machine which only accepted payment in interesting objects.  It
refused money, but if you put in (say) an archeological artifact you
could get whatever you wanted.

Just thought you'd be amused.
