With the close of the Year 2009, I can report that all of our functioning NuCabs with one lone exception (afaik) have been retired to the FreeGeek boneyard. The lone exception is NodeNorthstar and I'm planning to get a WgtCab in there soon.
With some helpers, including Aaron Burt, Christopher Chen, Don Park and Marino Duregon, we got 9 AlixCabs deployed this week. That makes 13 AlixCabs in the field. And to those that donated to the AlixCab fund, a hearty thank you for helping to make the AlixCab project a success. In addition to the AlixCabs, we also have 27 WgtCabs deployed and functioning, one that was unplugged during the holidays and that should be plugged back in shortly, and three that are waiting to go in to existing nodes. Two WgtCabs from defunct networks are on their way either to being returned or to finding new homes. I should also note that, although our data are far from perfect or precise, we have good reason to believe that something on the order of 20 to 30 thousand unique devices (and their owners) used networks that we manage in 2009. That is a real impact in the community and is something of which we can be justifiably proud. It's something we can do even better at and I hope that we will in the year ahead. Goals for 2010 include more outreach to neighborhood organizations, continuing development of hardware and software that meets the needs of our networks, better more effective publicity and partnerships, and with the help of an engaged community, more nodes in more places. -- Russell Senior, President [email protected] -- The Personal Telco Project - http://www.personaltelco.net/ Donate to PTP: http://www.personaltelco.net/donate Archives: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.network.wireless.portland.general/ Etiquette: http://www.personaltelco.net/index.cgi/MailingListEtiquette List information: http://lists.personaltelco.net To post to this group, send email to [email protected] To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [email protected]
