Daveed, Are you talking about the PTR1 or the PRS software?
A quick explanation: PTR1: On the PTR1 the terms used are "Insert" and "Punch-In". Insert means what it sounds like i.e. when you select a position in your audio and start recording, the new audio will be inserted into the existing audio at the location specified. No deletion will occur. The "Punch in" mode allows you to specify a group of phrases that will be replaced with the new audio. This can be as little as a single phrase up to the whole of the original recording. PRS: There has been some confusion over the fact that different terminology is used in the PTR1 and the PRS. On the PRS the two phrases used are "Overwrite" and "Punch in". This can be quite confusing, however, I'll try to clarify things. Overwrite means that the new recording will completely overwrite the section you are focussed on from the highlighted phrase to the end of that section. You do not need to specify particular phrases apart from the starting point, it will assume that everything else in the section is to be deleted and replaced with the new audio. The confusion is the use of the "Punch in" option. This can be used to either insert audio (as in the PTR1 or can be used to behave like the punch in facility on the PTR1. The thing that decides which way you want to use this facility is in the dialogue box that appears when you go into recording pause mode. In the list of phrases displayed, the top item is "Nothing". If you leave this selected, "Punch in" will act like the insert mode. If you specify any or all of the phrases in the list, "Punch in" will behave like the punch in facility on the PTR1. I know that is a bit confusing but I assure you that this all works. Hope this helps.
