After working reliably for some time, I am having an annoying recurring problem with my PTR. I want to know if anyone else has had a similar problem, and what they have learned about it.
I use a micro drive in my PTR. It has worked reliably throughout. Then within the past couple of weeks, the PTR suddenly wouldn't run right with it. If I took out the card, the PTR worked fine. When the card was installed, if I turned on the PTR, it would recognize the card, announce how many daisy books were on it, go to the last title I was on, and then sound the waiting sound indefinitely. Even if I turned off the machine, this waiting sound would continue. the only way to stop the machine was to take out the battery. I tried erasing the card and reinstalling the books. It ran fine for a day or two and then the same problem happened. I tried again erasing the card. Then last weekend, while the card had been working, I set the PTR up to record a conference. It worked for a while, and then would not record, giving some meaningless warning sound like its error message. There was ample room on the card to keep recording. I didn't try recording to a cd because i didn't have one. Later I tried copying the part of the conference that had recorded to a CDRW. It reported that it had burned this item. Then it said that the cdrw was a damaged or unrecognized disc. My computer recognized the disc and its contents just fine. Finally, I took out the card, totally reformatted it in my laptop, and loaded some books on it. It ran fine for 2 days or so. then without warning the first probem described above happened again i.e. when I turn it on, it goes to the last title I was reading, and keeps sounding the waiting sound indefinitely. Any ideas? I plan to try to run the card in another ptr when I can get access to one to confirm that the card runs fine. I assume it is going to work because when i put the card in my laptop and look at its contents, the laptop reads it just fine.
