Point taken Andrew, but I know to say they are much the same thing, could
have caused me at one time to have bought the wrong one for the PTR1!

Hi,

No, if you have a PCMCIA card adaptor, that is essencially a card reader.
You could call a USB card reader a card adapter, technically - it does the
same job as the PCMCIA version.  The ``adapter'' has to do all that the card
reader does - i.e, provide the support for the card on the target equipment,
etc.
