Jason,

I am also a recording musician and have been recording several live
concerts a month with it for the past year. I am running the outputs of
my mixer into the auxelery inputs but am not entirely happy with the
results. The recording indicators only give you a reading when you are
in record pause mode so many of my live rcordings wind up distorted when
I fail to anticipate how loud the performer is going to get.
Eventually I expect I will have to invest in an outboard
compressor/limiter to resolve this issue.

Also, I love this product but have been very disappointed with the copy
protection logic that is built into it. You will find that even though
you are using the analog inputs to create original personal music
recordings that the Plextalk assumes that you are stealing pre-recorded
music and will not let you make copies of your copies. Thus once you
have recorded an original recording to RAM be sure and make as many
copies from this original as you need before erasing it since you will
have difficulty making copies of copies.

Hi,
I use a mixer through the Line-In for mikes and other instruments.

Hi.

1. RFBD used to provide keys on CD, but they changed this some time
ago, so now it is done by them. I am not sure whether this is still the
case.

2. There is an audible meter on the PTR1 for recording. It will tell
you whether the signal is too high, normal or low.

3. You can use a stereo microphone using a powered Pre-Amp through the
line socket.

Subject: Intro and question

Hello everyone!

I am very excited to have joined this list and look forward to hearing
from all of you. The PlexTalk sounds like just the device I need for my
live recording requirements.

My name is Jason and I am from Meriden, CT. I am a professional
musician and sometimes need to record my performances (or the
performances of others). I wish I had known about the PlexTalk before I
had gotten my Marantz CDR 300, but luckily, I have been able to sell
that unit on eBay and am saving up the money to buy a PlexTalk. I have
some questions about the unit that I thought I'd ask all of you:

1. Does RFB&D need to be the one to put their copyright protection (I
think it is called a UAK or something to that effect) on to the PlexTalk
or can we do it ourselves with a CD they can send us? I ask only
because I would like to order my unit from IRTI, but have heard they
first need to ship it to RFB&D who will install the necessary firmware
and then ship it to us. That sounds like a bit of a project and leaves
room for some problems. I could get it from RFB&D themselves, but they
don't seem to offer the deal(s) that IRTI offers. What are your
suggestions please?

2. How does one adjust the recording volume level to the appropriate
setting? Is there an audible VU meter on the unit itself?

3. What you recommend I do for recording in stereo? I have a stereo
mic, but as far as I understand it, the PlexTalk has a mono mic input.
I realize there is a stereo Line In, however, and wonder if that can be
utilized in some way?

Thanks so much for dealing with my questions. I look forward to getting
to know everyone here and also to interacting with all of you.

Thanks very much.

Best regards and Happy New Year,
