Hi Frank yes you have to put the track in by pressing the track button.  If
you are recording in the music CD mode when you turn the machine off so that
you can turn the tape over when you turn the machine back on to continue
recording it will make a new track.  But if you are recording in daisy
format it won't do that so when you resume recording you have to press the
track button.  When you are recording on a music CD you have 80 minutes.  So
you will want to keep track of your minutes.  I hope that this helps.  Linda
