building root file systems is the main purpose of ptxdist....

Do I understand you correctly, that you want to use the toolchain on the
target? The toolchain you just built can only run on you host PC (which
is probably an i386 or amd64). You have to build a compiler that works
on arm, not just produces code for the arm system. With ptxdist this is
not possible, at lest not without some serious hacking.

See above, the toolchain will not run on the arm, it is compiled to run
on your host. Although you can move the toolchain around, no need for
static compiling, the toolchain has some magic build in to detect that
it has been moved.....

our mailserver chocked a bit, but nothing bad happend ;)

there are tool like bzip2 around, that can reduce the size of textfiles
dramatically ;P
