I want to take issue with a few things John Kendle wrote recently:

>Aren't the main issues in Australia today - crime/unemployment/drugs

>From my perspective, NO. The headlines of mass media reports might give
that impression, but that is because of the lack of emphasis they place on a
host of other serious issues facing Australians. If you doubt that there
are other serious issues, take a look at a website I put together last year
for someone who would probably be labelled a redneck: it's called Freedom
for Australia at:
http://tonypitt.net

We are probably all influenced by what the media tells us. I certainly was,
back in the days when I was busy establishing a home and family. But now
that I have lived longer and had more time to analyse events, I am struck by
the number of instances where the observations of my own ears and eyes are
at odds with the stories portrayed by the media. Conclusion: I now believe
those who assert that the media is involved in a huge and ongoing propaganda
exercise intended to control for their own purposes the populations of
"democratic" countries such as Australia.

>The sale of Telstra completely should proceed, but with controls similar to
>media/TV.

Sounds like that came direct from a government media release.

The "controls" on our media/TV are a bad joke. They allow our airwaves to be
swamped by a glut of the worst of American "culture". They allow popular
programs to be interrupted ad nauseum by unrequested advertisements. They
do nothing to ensure a fair hearing for political views (such as those of
Neither) opposed by the establishment. They do nothing to prevent the media
misinforming the public. They allow foreign media magnates to buy up media
once owned by Australians.

>The important thing about the GST, is that it will collect some
>taxation from profit shifters

A more important thing about the GST is that it has been portrayed by the
libs and media as the ONLY possible solution to our tax problems.... when of
course, it is not. Where in the media have you seen and heard an equivalent
discussion of the Tobin tax, a tax on funds transfers out of Australia, a
tax on foreign owned businesses operating here, or reintroduction of a
death tax?

Sorry John, with respect, I think you are being hoodwinked; a victim of
media propaganda.

>Both Liberal and ALP have zero tariff protection policies. The results of
>this are the decimation of manufacturing industries and the accompanying
>unemployment of low skilled workers.

Glad to find something on which we agree. Dare I plug another of my
webpages... Australia needs an Industry Policy? It's at:
