Dear all,
I'd like to announce the release an *experimental* service [1] that
provides the RAMEAU subject headings as open linked data.
Rameau [2] is the main subject vocabulary used at the French national
library (BnF) and many other French institutions. This site, a result
of the TELplus project, and a collaboration between the Vrije
Universiteit Amsterdam and BnF, aims at encouraging experimentation
with Rameau on the web of data.
RDF/SKOS Data:
RAMEAU Concepts are described here according to the SKOS model [3] to
represent knowledge organization systems in RDF. Each concept comes
with labelling information but also semantic relations to other
concepts and various kind of notes. Concepts have URIs of the form
http://stitch.cs.vu.nl/vocabularies/rameau/ark:/12148/cb11932889r.
RDF/HTML content negociation:
This service follows the Best Practice Recipes for Publishing RDF
Vocabularies [4]. Depending a web agent's preference, it can serve
RDF/XML or HTML descriptions of concepts--note that the HTML pages
contain RDFa markup.
Semantic alignment to LCSH:
Many concepts served here are semantically connected to the Library of
Congress Subject Headings linked data (soon to be) available at
http://id.loc.gov. This is done using 60,000 manual mappings provided
by the MACS project [5]. Thanks to them, you will be able to "follow
your nose" between one vocabulary and the other.
Metrics:
The RAMEAU version served here contains 157,280 concepts, of which
96,825 correspond to common nouns and 51,646 to geographic names.
Comments are highly welcome, either by personal mail, or via the LOD
and SWD mailing lists. This is an experimental prototype, and any
feedback--even positive!--could be useful to implement a more robust
version of it in the future!

Thanks a lot for your attention,
Antoine
