Hey all, I spy an article about http://www.icmacentre.ac.uk/soldier/database/search.php on slashdot.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8160081.stm This database contains lots of records on Garrisons, Musters (call to serve), etc It occurs to me that this would be neat to interlink with Freebase<http://www.freebase.com/>, Geonames <http://www.geonames.org>, and the rest of the linked data<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linked_Data>web with it Adrian, a few questions for you - 1) Is it possible to obtain database dumps<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Database_dump>in any form? mysql / postgres dumps or CSV<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comma-separated_values> ? would this data be all considered public domain<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_domain> ? 2) Are there any plans to expose 1x solider / garrison<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garrison>/ etc by URI <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uniform_Resource_Identifier>? For example: http://www.medievalsoldier.org/soldier/view.php?id=13241 http://www.medievalsoldier.org/garrison/view.php?id=12345 3) Have you looked at linking to other data sets? IE: http://linkedgeodata.org/ for places (ie, your garrison data could link to geonames / open street map locations) http://www.freebase.com/view/en/owain_glyndwr - an example of a historical figure which would be recorded in your data; but it's sparse in detail http://dbpedia.org/ would also have the same data as freebase Zemanta <http://www.zemanta.com> helped me add links & pictures to this email. It can do it for you too. <http://www.zemanta.com/>
