Disaster 2.0 (http://www.disaster20.eu) is a project studying the actual and
potential uses of Web 2.0 and semantic technologies in disaster management. The
project will identify best practices and develop policy recommendations for EU
governments, and it will also contribute to the state of the art by developing
use cases, ontologies and software demonstrating Web 2.0 and semantic
technologies in disaster management.

A Research Software Developer is required to design and implement software
systems for use in disaster management. The systems will utilise ontologies and
other semantic technologies, and so the ideal applicant would have both
extensive experience developing Web-based software and preferably a familiarity
with Semantic Web and Linked Data tools and standards. The developer would work
closely with researchers at both Aston and Warwick University, and potentially
with members of EU government organisations. He or she would be expected to
contribute to the publications by the research group, and would have the
opportunity to participate in a dynamic research team, be involved in
architectural design decisions, and contribute to the future direction of the
project.

The appointment will be at RA or RF level depending on qualifications, for a
duration of up to 14 months. For further details and application procedures,
please consult http://jobs.aston.ac.uk/Vacancy.aspx?ref=R120043

For an informal discussion please contact, Dr. Christopher Brewster, PI of the
project,(+ 44 121 204 3233, [email protected]).
