Is there an opportunity for a discussion with the Drupal folks?
It seems to me that it is not for us to decide what they should use
here. But I wonder if there is an opportunity to ensure they are
aware
of the tradeoffs for the different approaches.
Indeed. I was contacted by Dries Buytaert from the Drupal project,
whose email I forwarded to the list (with his approval). I told him
we would love to have him join the mailing list and send his thoughts
at any time. I look forward to more interaction with these
communities. Dries, if you're listening, jump in at any time :)
One important aspect that Dries mentioned is that Drupal produces
XHTML that must validate. So, if Drupal chooses RDFa, it will only be
deployed once an official W3C validator accepts it. I'm sure the
Drupal project is considering many options for embedding metadata,
RDFa being one of them. One of the things I want to explain very
carefully is how RDFa differs from other solutions, so that
communities like Drupal can make an informed decision when they're
prototyping various solutions.
I'm excited about getting the metadata in there.
As am I! We need to continue to seek ways to embrace these efforts as
much as possible, while making sure we maintain important web
principles for parsing and extending this metadata in the future.
