I don't see any provisions for canceling XMLHttpRequests when a user navigates
away from the page or closes the window. Should there be some?
And if so, which page or window is relevant in the scenario when one window
creates and possibly opens an XMLHttpRequest and another sends it?

P.S. This two-window thing is a constant source of compat issues between the
Gecko and IE implementations, so it'd be good to have an idea of how it actually
works in the various browsers.... That's why I keep bringing it up in various
scenarios.
