Hello all We wanted to let you know that WMF has signed a joint statement <https://policy.wikimedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/transparency-digital-rights-and-nafta.pdf> by internet freedom and digital rights organizations urging NAFTA countries for transparency in the negotiations process and to protect the right to culture and freedom of expression. The letter also asks that rules on copyright adequately protect users and the public domain and demands that provisions on the free flow of data do not limit countries' abilities to protect privacy and security.
We've published a blog post about the letter here <https://blog.wikimedia.org/2017/08/18/nafta-transparency-permissive-copyright/> . For more perspective on the issue, you can read the statements from our friends at Creative Commons here <https://creativecommons.org/2017/08/18/digital-rights-organisations-tell-nafta-negotiators-move-talks-shadows/> and Open Media's post here <https://openmedia.org/en/civil-society-urges-trade-decision-makers-consider-impacts-nafta-digital-rights> .
