At the very least option 2: continue polling feeds. Although perhaps less frequently than you would poll a regular feed.
There are any number of reasons why a hub might fail to deliver an update to you, even if it hadn't lost your subscription. Thinking of PuSH as a complete replacement for polling is unwise IMO. Unless you don't really care if you lose a few updates. In addition, if real-time updates are important to you, I would consider periodically resubscribing too.
