Uh, not sure if this is really such a good idea. I am actually not
even convinced that $TMPDIR at all is a good idea. Too many
applications assume that dir is a shared namespace they can use to
communicate with other users. 

Also, I see certain security implications here. Before I merge that
patch I really need to think about it more...
