FWIW, I neglected to note the card is an Audigy 2 Value, a 20 bit card that 
to these old ears, beats the original SoundBlaster to a pulp.  Those extra 4 
bits of headroom make one heck of a difference.  Emu10k1 driver of course, 
and a 2.6.34 kernel.
