Hi Col, The reason why I do not wish to use the remote syslog capability is that it could be potentially locked by other components trying to log through its process. By creating a log target specific to Pulseaudio logs, the real time constraint gets better respected especially in an embedded environment. Another advantage is that the log source can be extracted from the Pulseaudio thread rather than the Syslog thread. It can be also convenient to log directly in a file or a remote device. I reattach the patch for remind and hope that it can be reviewed by Lennart.
