 Lennart told you that after the driver gets fixed, PulseAudio will work
 fine for you. Therefore the "elsewhere" resolution seems correct. There
 are reasons why PulseAudio does what it does - you haven't given any real
 reasons why the volume logic should be changed, other than working around
 the driver bug.
