Issue #2159 has been updated by luke.

Category changed from SSL to usability
Status changed from Unreviewed to Accepted
Target version set to 0.26.0

This error is only happening because Apache (or whatever is in front of
mongrel) is being a proxy. If you were getting a direct connection, then you
would get a more useful exception.

You're right, though, that it's a bad error.

Bug #2159: Allowingunauthenticated client access to puppetca.getcert
http://projects.reductivelabs.com/issues/2159

Author: [email protected]
Status: Unreviewed
Priority: Normal
Assigned to:
Category: SSL
Target version: 0.26.0
Complexity: Unknown
Affected version: 0.24.8
Keywords:

We started getting the following error messages on our puppetmaster after I
changed the name of one of our servers:

Apr 14 14:49:09 puppet-server puppetmasterd[32314]: Allowing
unauthenticated client localhost(127.0.0.1) access to puppetca.getcert

It turns out this was caused by the fact that I hadn't signed the cert for the
server with the new name.

The error message is not helpful at all, it should have the name of the server
that's trying to authenticate, not localhost.

Thanks,
Scott
