Issue #2775 has been reported by Florian Wagner.

Bug #2775: Bug when replacing a directory with a symlink
http://projects.reductivelabs.com/issues/2775

Author: Florian Wagner
Status: Unreviewed
Priority: Normal
Assigned to:
Category: file
Target version:
Affected version: 0.25.1
Keywords:
Branch:

One of my puppet classes contains:

  file { "/etc/ldap":
    ensure => "openldap",
    force => true,
    require => Package["libldap-2.4-2"],
  }

This worked correctly in 0.24.8, backing up all files in /etc/ldap to the
clientbucket (no explicit configuration here) and then replacing the directory
with a symlink. On 0.25.1 this results in the following error:

info: .../File[/etc/ldap]: Recursively backing up to filebucket
info: .../File[/etc/ldap]: Filebucketed /etc/ldap/ldap.conf to puppet with sum
...
info: .../File[/etc/ldap]: Filebucketed /etc/ldap/schema/autofs.schema to
puppet with sum ...
err: .../File[/etc/ldap]/ensure: change from directory to link failed: Could
not back up; will not replace at .../manifests/init.pp:19
